The turmoil deepened at HNA Group Co., the Chinese conglomerate that’s been selling billions of dollars in assets to stay afloat, after its No. 2 executive died while touring southeastern France.

HNA Group, the once-acquisitive Chinese conglomerate, said that Co-Chairman Jian Wang died after an accident on Tuesday in France. He was 57.  Wang had a fall during a business trip in Provence, France, HNA said in a statement. It didn’t provide further details about Wang’s sudden death. Wang owned about 15% of HNA, the Chinese conglomerate, according to the group’s last update of its ownership structure.

Wang, who was on a business trip, had a fall from which he couldn’t recover, HNA said in a statement on its website. Wang died Tuesday morning after falling from a 15-meter high cliff while having his photograph taken in Bonnieux, according to a police officer reached by phone from Avignon. The death isn’t being viewed as suspicious, the officer said.
