Claude Sauter is a Swiss national and a lifelong hospitality professional with a proven track record in the industry. He has been appointed as the new General Manager of The Slate, an art-inspired beachfront resort on Phuket’s northwest coast. Claude’s unrivalled local knowledge, industry acumen, and leadership experience make him the perfect fit for this crucial role.
Claude first arrived in Phuket in 1997 as the Resident Manager of Impiana Resort Patong, and since then, he has managed some of the island’s top hotels and resorts. He is proficient in six languages: Thai, French, English, German, Italian, and Spanish. Claude graduated from the prestigious Swiss hotel school Ecole Hôtelière de Genève and Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration.
Claude’s time in Phuket has defined his life and career. He achieved his first general manager’s role with Cape & Kantary Hotels, leading the famous Cape Panwa Hotel in southeast Phuket. He has since headed-up several major properties in Phuket and neighbouring Phang Nga province for international hotel groups, including Wyndham and Marco Polo. Most recently, he was the GM of The Surin Phuket for over six years, making it one of the best performing hotels on the island.
Claude brings his impressive management qualities and local area expertise to the forefront. The Slate Phuket has recently garnered numerous awards, reinforcing its unique position as one of Thailand’s finest resorts.
It was named in three categories in the Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best 2022: Top 25 Out of the Ordinary Hotels in the World, Top 25 Luxury Hotels in Thailand, and Top 25 Hotels in Thailand. At the first-ever Travel+Leisure Asia’s Best Awards 2022, the resort was voted one of the top 10 Best Beach Resorts in Thailand, while its restaurant, Black Ginger, was selected one of the top 10 Best Special Occasion Restaurants. The Slate Phuket was also named the seventh best resort in Thailand in the Condé Nast Traveller Readers’ Choice Awards 2022. These awards are a tribute to The Slate Phuket’s excellent service, exquisite accommodations, and distinctive design.
